What is rebar and why is it used in construction?
In general, the compressive strength of concrete is very high, and we need an extremely strong force to crush it. Meanwhile, concrete has a relatively weak tensile and torsional strength. For this reason, to increase its tensile and torsional strength, various types of rebar are used, especially ribbed ones.
Rebar was first used in France in the early 19th century. At that time, concrete alone was not enough to build large and strong structures. By increasing the tensile strength of concrete, this section made it possible to build large concrete structures such as bridges, tall buildings and dams.
